Jiu Jitsu is a comprehensive Japanese martial art focusing on a wide array of defense scenarios and techniques. What is so unique about our style is that it is comprised of many modern day descendants of unarmed combatives such as Aikido, Karate, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Instead of studying one of these styles alone, our classes teach techniques from all of them.

This includes standup defenses, multiple attacks, ground fighting, striking, weapon defenses (stick, knife and gun), throwing (judo and aikido), joint locks and submissions holds. Jiu Jitsu emphasizes the ability to turn an attacker’s own force against himself or herself, which means size, strength and flexibility are not the most important factors in achieving proficiency in this art. Classes are designed for all students of all ages, sizes and strength.

Some experts tend to divide the Eastern “unarmed” martial arts into two categories: ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ arts.  ‘Hard’  are where the major emphasis is on striking (punching & kicking); for example Karate, Tae Kwon Do and Kung Fu‘Soft’ arts tend to place greater emphasis on grappling (throws and holds), such as Aikido, Judo, and Jujitsu.  Our style is a combination of both.

Our adult martial arts classes focuses on street scenario self defense which are designed to teach students how to defend themselves in any situation.  Jiu Jitsu loosely translates as ”the science of softness” or “the gentle art” and is applied to many schools of unarmed and hand-to-hand combat. The soft grappling style was intended to help unarmed soldiers to fight against armed enemies in any way possible, using the least amount of force necessary.

Jiu Jitsu was the primary unarmed combat method of the Samurai. Modern day Aikido, Judo, Brazilian Ju Jitsu and MMA are all descendents of Jiu Jitsu.

Training will give you the confidence of knowing that you can defend yourself in most situations. Your real goal should be to attain the rank of Black Belt. This level of proficiency typically takes about 5 years for adults.

Progression in our system is based on training 2 days per week. To test each month you need a total of 8 classes. That being said we have a variety of options available to satisfy the financial and time requirements of all our students.
